Welcome to The Gillingham News which I have been compiling, printing and distributing for nearly five years. The Gillingham News is a free monthly publication due out on the first weekend of each month and is available to collect from outlets in Gillingham, Milton on Stour, Mere, Bourton and Wincanton. It contains news and views of Gillingham and the surrounding district and aims to provide a platform for really local matters that are sometimes passed over by the larger news publications in our area.
As a freelance writer and photographer for the Blackmore Vale Magazine and the Western Gazette, I find there is still room for a publication dedicated just to Gillingham and district i.e. The Gillingham News.
For those further afield, Gillingham is in North Dorset close to the borders of Wiltshire and Somerset. It’s pronounced ‘Gill’ as in a fish’s breathing apparatus and not ‘Gill’ as in a measure of liquid. Gillingham has a railway station on the Waterloo/Exeter line and is betwixt the A303 and A30, the main routes to the West Country from London. Gillingham parish has a population of more than 10,000 and is said to be ‘the fastest growing town in North Dorset’.
